Making of
We have made it, we have already signed and the adventure has begun. We are preparing the space to receive the first group of “guinea pigs”, who will help us in the coming days to improve the place, to make changes and to condition it from the user experience.
The first thing is to start with the garage, taking out all the things that are not useful. Then I have to start organizing the tools for mowing and the garden. There is everything, from a mower to a brush cutter, from a machine to plow the land to a chainsaw, from walnut and hazelnut collectors to numerous rakes and shovels, from a hedge trimmer to a compressor and a lathe.
Next we have to fill and design the space, we have to transform it into a cool coworking space, a pleasant place where you want to come and work instead of working from home. To do this, we have bought office chairs and we will use some wooden ones, two and a half meters boards, carpenter’s easels, shelves to dress them with books, frames to fill the walls with illustrations and cheerful phrases, a clock to see how time stops…
I have to start mowing to have the place ready for the arrival. We have already created the communication group and a tool where the information is located. We have the website and the forms ready, we have registered on some coliving and coworking platforms, we are talking with potential allies and we have confirmed the first events of the space.
At the same time we are doing paperwork, changing the water and electricity bills, the accommodation license, contracting the insurance and most importantly, installing high-speed internet so that we can work from the rural area. Yesterday we received the first visit, we uncovered all the manholes on the farm and we studied the different options to achieve good internet in the cabins and the coworking space. We are going to opt for 1Gb fibre optic. We are also going to install a repeater to extend the signal to any corner. We leave open the option of installing wiring to plug it into the laptop if necessary.
We also have to deal with the bureaucratic part of registering the company, paying the notary, consulting, registration and taxes, requesting bank cards and I’m sure I’m forgetting something. We have already ordered some test t-shirts, but we didn’t want to go crazy designing mugs or sweatshirts, because we trust that with the help of some guest we will improve the logo soon.
I have already returned the rental van, after going over the kilometers and making several trips from one place to another. It was curious that I got a message that the driver needs to rest, and he invited me to have a coffee, I am surprised that in such a short time the van has gotten to know me so well, so I have enjoyed several coffees too.
Today I am going to go to the accountant, supervising the installation of the internet, finishing setting up the coworking space and checking the houses too. I will do some printing, yesterday I bought the printer ink and the extensions. We’re also going to bring down some things from home, like books, paintings, a coffee maker, thermoses and even several hammocks.
We’re already prepared, and we have some surprises for the guests.
And you… When are you coming to visit us?
