Patience

This week the word that is repeated is patience, we have to learn to have it. Sometimes it seems that we are not making progress, we have many open fronts that we have to close.

The purchase of the land in Ghana is a bit stuck, we have made a low offer but the deal is not working out. We are going to wait a few weeks to try again, because the truth is that we have to get hold of them. They are asking us for 210,000 cedis for three plots and after this first meeting they only discounted 10,000 cedis, which is nothing for such a high amount. Our last offer will be around 180,000 cedis, about 10,500 euros, I feel that time is on our side, with the constant devaluation of the currency every week, but it is difficult to handle the wait and the worry that someone might buy it.

Despite not having reached an agreement, I prefer to focus on the positive signs to trust and do my best, such as the visit of a Spaniard to sleep in the hostel for a couple of days, who will leave money at home and is good news, or the confirmation of a long-term volunteer, who will help us for 6 months from Koforidua to raise funds to finish the construction, small steps in the right direction.

In Spain things are going well, we continue to make quick and direct changes to the website, thanks to the collaboration of the people we have in the coliving. From professional photographs to copy revision, through sessions to work on the branding and logo, or simple corrections of translation errors, we have a great team.

The truth is that we would like to see the space full all year round, as we have it now, but we have to trust and continue working to achieve it, step by step. We already have several confirmed meetings for October, such as the SID training course in Cantabria or the annual Summit of our community, which helps us to fulfill the promise of opening a social entrepreneurship training school in the town, with events and programs like these open to the community.

I have been waiting for the plumber since last winter, yesterday he told me he was coming, but I waited all morning and nothing. He promised me that he will come next week, I hope we can heat the house this winter. We also urgently need to install some solution for the new coworking space, because when the temperatures drop a little more it will be difficult to work there sitting down unless we can heat it.

It has also been twenty days and we do not have the insurance contracted, the weeks go by and I am still waiting. Without the insurance I cannot change the tourist license, and then I have to register with the Ministry of the Interior for the traveler registry, after living in Colombia and Africa it seems that I have not learned anything.

The “California” seems to be about to come out of the pits. Since December last year when we broke down on the way back from Seville, we have been looking for an engine everywhere, and we have finally found it. I thought that when we returned from Ghana it would be installed, but the weeks are passing. Yesterday the mechanic told me that he would get on with it this week, although he also told me the same thing last week.

So we have to be patient, like with the plants I have just planted so that I can eat cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage or leek this winter. Or like the chickens I have just bought, which take 4 months to fatten up. Or the rabbits that have just been born, which take a little more than 3 months to grow. In reality we have to learn from the chickens, which we feed and care for and they continue to lay an egg every day. I think that is the philosophy. To continue working with love and enjoying the moment, looking for spaces for reflection and gratitude, to be aware of what we have achieved, that we are privileged. Yesterday I sat on a bench under the walnut tree and just watched life go by.

And you… Do you allow yourself to rest, enjoy and watch life go by?
